ORGANIC-FEEL PREAMP

RAVEN's preamp has powerful controls that are easy to use. Dialing up great sounds takes mere seconds. Clean. Mellow. Dirty. Raunchy. Whatever tone you need can be accessed easily with six controls: DRIVE, EDGE, SHIMMER, GRIND, HIGH, LOW and PREAMP-LEVEL let the player explore low-gain clean to high-gain shred with "organic" control. DRIVE sets preamp distortion saturation, while PREAMP-LEVEL sets the loudness prior to the main effects loop. EDGE boosts gain and treble emphasis. SHIMMER provides delicate nuance to mids and highs. GRIND brings up the low-end. HIGH and LOW provide the equalization power of a three-way tone stack.

Four gain stages allow access to any heavy sound you can imagine - or any light sound you need. Two dual-triode preamp tubes are dedicated to preamp functions. Any of 12AT7, 12AU7, 12AX7, 12AY7, 12AZ7, ECC-81, ECC-82, ECC-83, 5751, 7025 or any equivalent tube may be used in either position and in any combination.

POWER AND FINESSE

LOUD, BODY, GmX and POWER SCALE provide continuously variable tone and loudness shaping for the power stage. Go from loud and clean to compressed or distorted tones at the turn of a dial. BODY provides access to single-ended sounds - shred through a "Champ"! GmX dials in the sound of a 100W amp; muscular and effortless tone with tighter bass. This is like "100W of tone in a 50W amp". Power Scaling provides the ultimate control over how loud you play to get your sound. 50W can deafen you... but now you don't have to go deaf to have great tone!

The massive 50W power amp can be operated pristine clean or compressed or outright distorted - all without being any louder than you wish to be. Power Scaling keeps your hearing safe and keeps the SPL police at bay. Dial down to true whisper levels - actually "unusably quiet" - indisputably quiet by any measure! Over 44db of dynamic power control. Any pair of large-bottle power tubes will produce the full 50W output. Plug in four tubes and have the tone of a 100W amp but also dial that sound in and out at will with the GmX control.

Optimal clean performance requires a 12AT7 in the power amp front-end, as fitted from the factory. The power amp uses any type of standard-pin-out octal power tube, any mix of those tubes, and any quantity of tubes from one to four, including: 6CA7, 6L6, 6V6, 5881, 6550, KT-66, KT-77, KT-88, or any variant of these types. Yes - plug in a single tube and have 1-2W of clean power and 5W of distorted output; plug in two tubes in any position; or three; or four tubes that are all different types. Whatever gets you your sound is fine.

TWO LOOPS: "PRE" & "POST"

There are two effects loops: a "pre" loop for head-end or front-loaded effects, and the "post" or main loop. "Pre" and "post" describe the loop position with respect to the preamplifier.

The series-mode pre-loop is dedicated to instrument-level pedals and devices. It offers transformer-isolation as needed, depending on the cables used to connect the external devices. The pre-loop is bypassed when nothing is connected to its jacks.

The "post" or main effects loop can be switched between mixing and series modes using the rear-panel SERIES switch. The main loop can be turned on and off remotely via foot-switch. Individual front-panel SEND and RETURN controls accommodate all effects devices. Pedals or rack units; guitar levels or line levels; a proper loop without limits. Both the 'send' and 'return' jacks have transformer isolation and ground-lift switches to eliminate ground loops to mains-powered effects.

EASY CONNECTIONS

The line output is transformer isolated and tracks the speaker outputs. A ground lift switch eliminates ground loops. Balanced or unbalanced T-R-S cables can be used.

Direct-impedance speaker jacks on the rear panel offer access to 4, 8 or 16 ohms. For maximum power and bandwidth, match the speaker load to the jack number. Otherwise, plug the speaker into whichever jack sounds best for your needs at the moment.

MULTI-AMP STAGE SET-UPS

RAVEN can be used with the STAGE LINK amp switching system. The Mute-Amp foot-switch mutes the entire amplifier and disconnects RAVEN's output from the speaker jacks when muted, allowing another amp's speaker output to be tied through the SPKR-LK (speaker link) jack to the speaker cabinet. An alternate foot-switch jack allows muting of just the preamp while leaving the power amp active and connected to the cabinet. This allows an external preamp connected through the main effect return path to play through RAVEN's power amp. Setting the main effect loop to 'series' mode using the rear-panel Series switch allows external switching between the external preamp and RAVEN's preamp.
