THE ULTIMATE WORKING MAN'S
STAGE AMP
Price: $2,200, or $2,400 with FX loop
Player-defined voicing (at time of order)
Like the northern lights, AURORA can be dark or bright, and provide many colours of illumination.
London Power is known for making highly versatile amps - sometimes too versatile for some players. AURORA began as a "simple is more" design - but with a few internal "twists" that made the controls powerful and unconventional. This suits some players, but many want a familiar or "safe" foundation for tone-building, along with a simple front panel. With our new array of optional voicings for AURORA (available at the time you order), YOU can select the basic tone-style of your AURORA from the following guide:
800: The gain and tone of the first master-volume British amps - get "brown"
Hotrod: The modified-800 tones of the 1980s - get some hair
Zen: The modern metal sounds of the "recto"/"slow" et al - transcend death
LP: The sound of the London Power Standard lead channel - a specific '80s hotrod
A4: A fat blues sound
AURORA's refined simplicity is one of sophistication and organic feel. With your selected tone-style as a foundation, simple panel controls allow easy access to clean and distorted forms of that tone. DRIVE, EDGE, SHIMMER, GRIND, LOUD, BODY and POWER SCALE provide continuously variable tone and loudness shaping. These few controls allow the player to access sounds from vintage Champ, Bassman, plexi, 800 and Vox tones - right up to modern ripping metal!
DRIVE sets the preamp gain and generally promotes distortion saturation levels.
EDGE controls treble content, either actively or passively depending on what is ordered as voicing.
SHIMMER alters midrange.
GRIND effects the low-end.
LOUD controls exactly that - how loud the amp will be.
BODY smooths push-pull sounds and allows one to dial into single-ended tones.
POWER SCALE is the "Ultimate Master Volume", dialing output power down from 25W to milliwatts. The lower level is distinctly "unusably quiet" - London Power's trademark loudness range allows the player to set his own personal "quiet" level.
AURORA's versatility rests in its "tweak-ability". The tone-style intrinsic to the amp can be altered further by the player through tube-type choices. Many of the high-gain sounds are based on 12AX7s, but lower-mu tubes can provide a new twist on this, reducing raw gain and noise but retaining a "high-gain" voice. Try any of the following preamp tubes in any/all positions: 12AT7, 12AU7, 12AX7, 12AY7, ECC-81, ECC-82, ECC-83, 5751, 7025, and any variants.
Power tubes can also be changed and mixed freely, among these types and their variants: 6CA7, 6L6G, 6L6GB, 6L6GC, 5881, 6550, EL-34, KT-66, KT-77, KT-88. Mix a 6V6 with a KT-88, or a 6L6 with an EL-34. Run the amp with a single power tube. It's all possible with AURORA, and it's all safe.
For those who need greater system flexibility, AURORA is available with a series effects loop. The rear-panel Send control provides a buffered signal to external devices, while the Return gain can be adjusted for anything from pedals to line-level effects. This option may be added at the time of ordering.
