The PA84 is a 25W push-pull power amplifier kit that can fit into a 1U low-profile chassis - 1.75" or 44mm over-all height. The custom toroidal output transformer is essentially transparent - it does not colour the sound - while providing impedance matching to 4, 8 and 16 ohm loads. Ultralinear taps provide further wiring options. PA84 can be used as a hifi or guitar power amplifier, with many wiring options accommodated for guitar applications. Add Power Scaling for 0-25W operation.
The PCB supports the basic front-end gain stage, concertina splitter and two output tubes, plus a range of wiring options:
- fixed bias and/or cathode bias
- triode, ultralinear and/or pentode connections or switching
- Body control wiring for SE sounds
- GmX wiring points for massive tone on a dial (requires addition of the GMX-KIT)
- any 12A_7 tube can be used in the front-end
- two EL-84 tubes required for output
Controls:
Loud (optional*)
Sparkle (optional*)
Body (optional*)
*provision for these controls is made on the PCB but the builder must supply their own as required.
Use the PA84 with the matching power supply kit PA84-PSU. The supply can support three 12AX7s in addition to the tubes that comprise the PA84.
PCB size: 8.85" x 1.5" (225 x 38mm)
OT diameter: 4" (102mm)
The PA84 - EL-84 Power Amp Kit comes with comprehensive notes including installation tips and schematic diagrams of the kit.
